Smithers-Oasis is proud to be a founding supporter of the American Floral Endowment’s (AFE) Sustainabloom initiative, which was launched in 2022 to help the floral industry adopt more sustainable business practices. The initiative provides practical, research-based resources and education that support environmental, economic, and social responsibility.
In July 2026 during the U.S.-based trade show Cultivate’26, the Greenhouse Grower Evening of Excellence recognized organizations and programs that made a positive impact on the floriculture industry through leadership, innovation, and service. Sustainabloom was given the Spotlight Award as “a collaborative initiative dedicated to leading the floriculture industry toward a future enriched with sustainable practices at every level. It supported the need for continued floriculture research and communication around increased sustainable practices throughout the industry by creating user-friendly guides and resources.”
Since the beginning, Smithers-Oasis helped advance Sustainabloom’s mission, and the program has become a trusted resource for the floriculture industry. It offers sustainability planning tools, webinars, guides, and educational materials that help businesses improve their sustainability efforts.
Sustainabloom’s success is built on industry collaboration. With support from Smithers-Oasis, other U.S. floriculture companies, and partnerships with North Carolina State University, researchers, educators, and floral professionals, the program developed practical resources that help businesses evaluate and improve their sustainability practices. Sustainabloom serves growers, wholesalers, retailers, and suppliers across the floral supply chain.
