For many years, FloraLife® products packaged in 5-gallon liquid pails were designed with tightly sealed, difficult to open lids to prevent leakage during transport. While effective for shipping, the bucket design was not ideal for florists who wanted to reuse the containers. Floral designers requested a more practical, reusable container option, and FloraLife listened. To address their customers’ needs and further their sustainability efforts, FloraLife developed a reusable pail that remained secure during transportation.
The result was a 5-gallon pail featuring a tear strip that separated the lid from the container. “Not only was FloraLife able to reduce the plastic content in our five-gallon buckets, but we were also able to make them reusable, which is super handy for florists and supports our reuse principle,” said the FloraLife team. Once emptied of the product, the bucket could be repurposed to hydrate flowers, store blooms, or fulfill any other needs florists had. Additionally, the new design used nearly 25% less plastic than the original bucket design. By making this small, impactful change, FloraLife made florists’ lives easier while reducing plastic waste.
