FloraLife Expands Fresh Flower Storage And Reduces Processes Costs

Most flowers in the United States arrive in Miami before being distributed to stores nationwide. In the past, flowers were shipped in a “wet pack,” where stems were immersed in a flower food solution during transit. More recently, distribution centers for supermarkets and warehouse clubs have significantly reduced the slotting space allocated for the floral department by nearly half. This reduction limited the volume of flowers these centers could handle. To address the issue, distribution centers “dry packed” flower shipments, where flowers are transported without hydration and rehydrated with a solution upon arrival at the stores.

This change allowed stores to more than double the number of flowers they could stock. However, this transition presented logistical challenges. Most warehouse club stores lacked counters or service areas to cut the flowers and put them in a flower food solution. Additionally, the stores wanted to avoid spending time processing flowers and training staff, as they preferred to focus their efforts elsewhere. FloraLife stepped in to develop an effective solution to simplify the process for everyone involved.

The idea was simple. A plastic liner, fitted for flower buckets, with a pre-measured, perforated package of FloraLife® Flower Food Powder.
