FloraLife Reduces Carbon Footprint of Its FloraLife® Express ULTRA 200 by Nearly 30 Percent

Jan 9, 2024

Company attributes the improvement in the product’s carbon footprint to several factors including formula improvements, packaging and manufacturing efficiencies.

WALTERBORO, S.C. – January 2024FloraLife, a division of Smithers-Oasis Company, and worldwide leader in providing solutions throughout the flower journey from farm to vase, announces that its FloraLife® Express ULTRA 200 carbon footprint has been reassessed and found to be reduced by nearly 30 percent since it was first assessed.

The nearly 30 percent reduction in the product’s embedded carbon content is a result of formula improvements, manufacturing efficiencies in the U.S., and changing to 100 percent recycled content for its 5-, 10- and 20-liter containers in Europe. Also, with the support of its customer base, FloraLife transitioned the majority of its customers to its highest concentrated formula, immediately reducing the impact of packaging and freight, while benefiting customers.

FloraLife continues to offset the remaining 70 percent of the FloraLife® Express ULTRA 200 2.5 gallon, 5-, 10- and 20-liter sizes to achieve carbon neutrality.

To conduct the reassessment, FloraLife partnered with Carbon Footprint Ltd., a leading company that specializes in carbon emission assessments, environmental strategy and planning, carbon and energy reduction and carbon offsetting. Carbon Footprint also conducted the initial assessment.

“Reducing the carbon footprint of Express Ultra 200 by 30 percent adds to the many tons of greenhouse gas emissions saved across the entire product range,” said Mark Allen, Global Product and Sustainability Manager, FloraLife. “We are fully committed to reducing the carbon footprint impact of this product and won’t settle for simply offsetting its carbon footprint.”

FloraLife® Express ULTRA 200 storage and transport solution was initially assessed in 2020, and FloraLife implemented a plan to offset its impact to create a carbon neutral product. It was recently reassessed to ensure the product’s carbon footprint reduction remained on track.

The reassessment of FloraLife® Express ULTRA 200 supports FloraLife’s 2025 Sustainability Plan, the company’s sustainability initiative that is a long-term plan targeted for 2025 that implements the reduce, re-use, recycle and respect principles in five commitment areas: climate change, water stewardship, product portfolio, sustainable packaging and stakeholder awareness.
