Ger van Dijk is one of Holland's leading florists.
He was two-times Dutch Champion consecutively in 1991/92 and 1993/94. He won third place in Cannes at the Europe Cup in 1991. Ger van Dijk runs a flower shop in Oegstgeest in The Netherlands and is constantly looking for different impressions. His design style is influenced by things in nature that surround him. He has traveled to many countries for design shows and teaching, and he works as a stylist and designer for several companies in Holland and abroad.
Why I prefer OASIS® Floral Foam
I only work with OASIS® Floral Foam because of its quick saturation and consistent quality, as well as good water-retention capability. OASIS has a large range of products which are essential to a florist, as there are cones*, spheres*, and wreath bases in many sizes, making my work more efficient and productive. Instructions
- Start with a NaylorBase® wreath base (35cm or 14"), which is saturated with fresh water. Cover the wreath equally with short branches of Ilex verticilata until most of the OASIS foam is covered. Start as low as possible, putting in the greens directly above the plastic base of the wreath so that the base is no longer visible.
- Now start to fill in the open parts. Begin with the biggest articles, like the pine cones, and spread them over the surface. The grey moss gives the wreath an exclusive look, in combination with the grey Eucalyptus buds and the Tillandsia Xerografica. Then add the glass balls to finish the arrangement and make it look very rich and very seasonal.
- Before finishing, take a look at the wreath from a lower viewpoint, like sitting at a table, and make sure there are no more open parts of the OASIS foam visible. If you want more decoration, you can add some left-over dried material and spray them red or silver with OASIS Color Spray*.
As a finishing touch, you can put a candle in the middle.
If you want candles in the wreath, for best results use OASIS candleholders. You can easily replace the candles after burning, and the material is flame retardant.
