Coming-Of-Age Day

In Japan, January 15 is the day to celebrate the maturity of boys and girls reaching the age of 20 years, thanks to their parents and all of the people around them. This ceremony has much historic background going back many years; however, the date of January 15 was officially chosen in 1948.

Today, many girls dress up in traditional KIMONO and KANZASHI (hair piece). We would like to present this idea of decorating KANZASHI with glued flowers, holding an oriental design bouquet on this happy day!

A. Bouquet Arrangement

This design was prepared with an image of a young lady, wearing KIMONO on her Coming-Of-Age Day, and holding this bouquet. The bamboo bouquet holder will be handy for holding this arrangement and, when ready, would become a room ornament when sitting on the bouquet stand.

Instructions

  1. Cover an Oasis Cone (9.5") with wire netting tightly.
  2. Cover the cone above with a vinyl bag and wrap it in dual-color Japanese paper. Place it on a bamboo bouquet holder.
  3. Place the wrapped Oasis Cone on a stand, and secure it onto the stand with waterproof tape. A wire is taped on back of aspidistra for designing any shape. Arrange flowers on the bouquet holder as shown.

B. Arrangement for Gift Wrapping

This elegant design is suitable as a gift wrapping for the Coming-Of-Age Day. The decorated chopstick can be worn in the hair as an ornament for a lady wearing KIMONO. In Japan, MIZUHIKI is used often for special celebrations and happy events. The number of strings used in MIZUHIKI for such occasions is always an odd number.

Instructions

  1. Cover Oasis Mini-Deco with cellophane and Japanese paper. Set it on a gift box which is wrapped in Japanese paper of the same color.
  2. Tie MIZUHIKI, a special paper string ornament, around a lacquered chopstick. Stick small leaves and flowers on the chopstick, securing it with an Oasis Hot Melt Glue Gun.
  3. Arrange flowers on the Mini-Deco and add the decorated chopstick on one side of the Mini-Deco.
