Unlike traditional topiary with wire forms, OASIS® GARDENSHAPES® Living Topiaries are constructed of a unique wettable foam with a moisture-retaining "skin" that provides drainage, promotes plant growth and prevents over-watering. Each topiary form comes attractively mossed, ready to enhance any garden setting.
OASIS® GARDENSHAPES® living topiaries are easy to use and require very little maintenance, making them perfect for both the novice and experienced gardener. OASIS GARDENSHAPES living topiaries are constructed of a unique wettable foam with a moisture retaining "skin" that provides drainage, promotes plant growth and prevents over-watering. The topiaries are formed with a cavity to accommodate a 4" ivy pot. As the ivy grows, simply pin the runners to the topiary form with greening pins or fern pins, following the shape and form of the topiary. As the ivy continues to grow, it will root and establish itself in the foam.
How to Plant Your Topiary
- Pull out tab.
- Fill and refill cavity with water until thoroughly saturated and water flows out of topiary base.
- Remove plant from pot and gently comb out the roots.
- Insert root ball into planting cavity.
- Fill firmly around root ball and water thoroughly.
For best results caring for and growing your OASIS® GARDENSHAPES® topiary forms, follow these simple directions below.
- Water thoroughly with gentle spray to wet plant soil and root ball.
- Small topiaries can dry out quickly. It is best to grow them in light shade, rather than full sun.
- Irrigate your topiary by thoroughly watering and fertilizing with an all-purpose fertilizer once a month. Follow instructions on the fertilizer package.
- If using ivy, pin down runners as ivy grows. After topiary is covered with ivy, trim off excess. NOTE: Watch for ivy spider mites. The leaves become speckled with yellow blotches. To treat, frequently wash with horticultural soap.
If the topiary is brought indoors, provide plenty of indirect light. Avoid full-sun exposure. The topiary will drain water through the base when fully watered, so protection of surfaces below the topiary is recommended.
