Smithers-Oasis Ambassadors are a team of well-trained, professional Floral Designers, who are recognised in the Floral Industry. This team is established to act as a communicator of the Smithers-Oasis product range to the widest market and, in turn, communicate developments in trends and fashions back to Smithers-Oasis, which will support and inspire excellent and progressive product development and develop support programmes for users of OASIS® products.
Richard Haslam, NDSF, FSF, AIFD
Richard is the 2005 recipient of the Spring Florist Event 'Award of Excellence.' This most recent honour was inscribed with an acknowledgement of his long-term service to the industry. Starting with horticulture in 1973, he progressed to floristry, serving apprenticeships in Dublin and Paris. The influence of continental design was evident when he established Branch Flowers, in Galway, Ireland in 1986. His innovative and contemporary talent is popular worldwide, even as far as Japan and Russia. Richard is enthusiastically dedicated to floristry education and recently worked with The Flower Council of Holland, as well as providing a consultancy service to the trade.
Richard was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 2005.
Rob Wallace, NDSF, FSF
Primarily a retail florist, Rob has been a member of Teleflorist for 20 years, Rob works very closely with them developing selection guides, posters, educational material and educational courses. Rob's many achievements include decorating the Welsh Assembly for the Queen's Jubilee, being a member of Teleflorist's design team at Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows, as well as demonstrating nationally and internationally.
Rob was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1996.
Sue Monaghan, NDSF
Sue manages her own shop in Liverpool and, until recently, owed her own flower and plants wholesaler businesses. Her initial training was at the Welsh College Of Horticulture. Sue's achievements include representing British Teleflower in the World Finals held in Tokyo in 1997, gold medal team winner at The Chelsea Flower Show and guest designer for the Flower Council Of Holland. Sue's ambition is to break into TV and to demonstrate the beauty of flowers to a larger audience.
Sue only uses OASIS® floral products and, she comments, "They are 100% reliable, they save me time and money and help me to increase my profitability. OASIS® floral products - the florist's friend - one of the best inventions on the planet."
Sue was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1998.
Coral Carter, NDSF, AIFD, FSF
Coral has run a successful business for over 30 years, obtaining national and international qualifications to further her development as a florist and a demonstrator.
Coral has been a Teleflorist member for 30 years and was winner of Florist Of The Year 1988. She represented Teleflower in Sweden for the World Final Competition and has been their designer at various events. Coral also represented the UK in the 1995 Europa Cup.
A Gold Medal award winner in the Professional Floristry Section at the Royal Horticultural Flower Show, Coral also won trophies in Society Of Floristry and Dutch Flower Council competitions.
Coral has demonstrated OASIS® Floral Products country wide, promoting their quality, reliability, workability, and profitability, and as a marked leader in their field.
Coral was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1990.
Ian Lloyd, NDSF, FSF
Ian's career in floristry started when he joined the family's nursery and florist business that was founded in 1935 in Northwich, Cheshire.
Ian's achievements include being President of The Society Of Floristry 2000 - 2002, demonstrating at the Chelsea Flower Show, Spring Florist Event, and in 13 countries, including India, America, Japan, Iceland and Israel. He has also appeared on satellite TV and lectured in floristry at The Welsh College of Horticulture. He has worked for The Flower Council of Holland for the past 12 years and is an active Interflora member.
One on Ian's renowned events wowed an audience of over 1,700 people at the NAFAS National Show in Bournemouth 2003 with his show, "Music of the Night," receiving a standing ovation.
Ian was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1996.
Maurice Wynne, NDSF, AIFD
Maurice manages three successful floral stores in Ireland. One is a traditional florist with the other two concentrating on innovative modern design. He has demonstrated and worked in seventeen countries worldwide.
Maurice's achievements include Irish Florist of the year winner, Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Show designer; and he is one of only two government recognised teachers for Ireland. Maurice also runs his own design school, teaching beginners to advanced designer levels and has appeared on national television regularly.
Maurice was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1997.
Margaret Stewart, NDSF, FSF
Margaret has been in floristry all her working life, and has run a successful flower shop in Glasgow for the past 33 years, winning many gold medals in competitive floristry.
Amongst her achievements she was four times Scottish Designer of the Year for Interflora, winning the British title in 1984, and twice Gold Medallist at Chelsea Flower Show in the Professional Floristry section. Margaret was part of the design team for the South African Exhibit at Chelsea Flower Show for 12 years, winning a Gold Medal every year.She was Lead Designer at the Glasgow International Garden Festival in 1986 for "Interflora Week," winning a gold medal, and was Assistant Designer for Britain at the World Cup in Amsterdam in 1997.
Margaret was a College Tutor in Floristry for 12 years, is a qualified Assessor and Internal Verifier for Floristry. She served on the Interflora Council and was an Executive Board Member for 10 years, has taught, demonstrated and compared extensively throughout the UK, Ireland and overseas.
Margaret is a staunch advocate of "Smithers-Oasis" products and holds The Society of Floristry Diploma.
Margaret was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 1989.
Helen Jamieson, NDSF, FSF
Helen began her career in floristry at a young age as a Saturday girl in her family business; soon bitten by the floristry bug, she became extremely passionate about flowers, design and the industry.
Along with her family training, Helen was also trained at North Tyneside College, where she later became a tutor of Floristry.
Helen has been a member of the Chelsea design team for Teleflorist and a designer on the Teleflorist selection guides, also has demonstrated for the Society of Floristry, Teleflorist and Smithers-Oasis on many occasions.
Helen now manages her well-established family business, located on the outskirts of Newcastle Upon Tyne, where she specialises in Wedding designs and would describe her business as, "Wonderful floristry for everyone with a good twist of the contemporary." Helen also works closely with Smithers Oasis UK Ltd. to develop new products for the floristry market.
Helen was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 2006.
Neil Whittaker, NDSF, AIFD, FSF
Neil has run a successful business based in Irlam, Manchester for many years. Having had an intensive training program around the world, he gained his NDSF in 1998 and his AIFD in 1999, with his induction taking place in Orlando in July 2000.
Neil has won many accolades, including UK Teleflorist of the Year and achieving 1st runner-up in the World Finals in the Philippines in 2000. He also won a Chelsea Gold medal in 2003 and 2004.
Having recently become a member of Interflora, Neil is now competing in the Interflora Florist of the Year competition.
Neil has demonstrated throughout the United Kingdom, USA and across Europe. He has also designed at Hampton Court Flower Show and has appeared many times on terrestrial and satellite TV.
Neil was appointed a Smithers-Oasis Ambassador in 2001.
